Brother so and so doesn't accept counsel
by hoser ini am not sure if anyone else here heard this phrase.
i did from a circuit overseer when i was a servant many moons ago.
with my newly enlightened mind i finally understand what this means.

Outlaw, that's pathetic. So boring to wheel out the "elder who is a cleaner" cliche. What he does for a living does not have to relate to his intelligence. -

Gifts from my old hall..
by Garrett inhey guys,.
so, it seems the hall i used to attend before my latest one got to hearing that i "disappeared".
so today, i went to the post office to pick up a package.... i decided to try to face reality and open it... what i found were multiple letters and wrapped gifts.

New day
My wife has been sick for a while and has missed many meetings. Just the other day I was given a card for her signed by all the members of our (foreign language) group. It touched us deeply. So that basic human and Christian kindness goes a long way. Even though I have major issues with the org on the generation teaching and the new funding arrangements I still feel a great warmth and love for the average bro or sis who is simply trying to be a Christian. -

Effect of reading here.
by New day insaomebody mentioned in a recent thread here i think that the more they read here the more they feel angry at the wt.
personally, as an ex-elder (only resigned a few months ago) i feel that it is more like suddenly being on the outside looking in at a whole group of people playing parts.
the zealous pioneers answering all the time.

I suppose what made me think of all of this is that my wife played the role of pioneer for many years against her natural shyness and this has caused her huge problems as her natural personality was suppressed. Now she is almost a recluse as the pressure made her crack. -

I would be interested to know if others feel that we assume roles as we enter the KH. -

Circuit Overseer's Cars - Anybody got the answers?
by The Searcher inatlantis provided a uk branch letter regarding a 3 levy per publisher to pay for the britain branch c.o.s 85 new cars.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/126700001/2-new-boes-watchtower-begging-money-volunteers.
with approximately 120,000 publishers in the uk, that will rake in 360,000. .

Jhine, the circuit overseers get a monthly allowance as full-time servants of the org. I don't know what the amount is but it isn't that much. When they visit congs they receive expenses from each cong for things like toiletries and incidental food expenses. All their meals are supplied either by the couple they stay with or they have a main meal each day with different families. They also receive fuel and maintenance expenses each week from the cong they visit. We recently had a wt study which strongly hinted that individual Witnesses should maybe pay for their medical expenses as I don't know if these are covered. When they retire they are farmed out to congs as special pioneers on a small pension. -

Adverts
by New day injust noticed that one of the ads that keeps popping up on my page (but only when i am on this site) is for a company called ministry ideas which sells all sorts of folders etc.
for use in the ministry by witnesses.
i have looked up this site at times and am appalled at the crass commercialism of it, but ironic that it appears when browsing on this site!

No... I wasn't mind controlled
by Zoos inthou shalt not stay at a hotel that is not on the rooming list.
work prevented me from attending our assigned district (regional) convention so i arranged my schedule to attend in a different city/weekend.
i know that's not a problem, brothers and sisters do it all the time.

I have never stayed at the designated hotels. Some bros in the cong have asked me if I do, with a wink and a nod, as they have also worked out that it is often cheaper to do your own thing. Anyway. I think it cramps your style if you are staying at a hotel full of bros and sis, some of whom would look accusingly at you if they spotted you having, gasp, of all things, an alcoholic drink! -

Your body of elders - were they liberal, conservative or moderate?
by minimus inin my first kingdom hall, the elders were ultra conservative.
our presiding overseer used to be a zone overseer.
the second hall i was in was moderate.

In our hall the sisters bring a scarf to drape over their legs for a talk if the skirts rides above the knee when they sit down!

In a congregation near us one sister rebelled, this was years ago, and she insisted on wearing trousers regularly to meetings, especially when it was cold. Her hubby was an elder. The body of elders tried to change her mind but she refused to do that. She carried on wearing them but was always viewed thereafter as a bit odd. -

Virgins and the Bride?
by Doug Mason ini know that a parable must never be made to walk on all four legs, that many of its elements are there to act as "fillers".. nevertheless, i wonder if i have missed something with the watchtower's "explanation" of the parable of the ten virgins.
they state that the parable relates to their anointed class.
but the wts also says that the 144,000 are the "bride".. so are the "anointed" part of the wedding party that is waiting outside as well as being the "bride" waiting inside?.

Yes, but aren't the anointed also double-jobbing in the book of Revelation, as the 144,000 in Rev. 14 and as the 24 elders in Rev. 11, according toWt theology? So maybe that's their thing, you know?
